NEWS 210729 ABOUT Exton|OS with KDE Plasma Desktop, Android Studio and Refracta Snapshot
The Desktop Environment in this Exton|OS build is KDE Plasma 5.18.4. Plasma is made to stay out of the way as it helps you get things done. But under its light and intuitive surface, it’s a powerhouse. So you’re free to choose ways of usage right as you need them and when you need them. Program content in build 210729: Most important are Refracta Snapshot and Android Studio with an excellent Android Emulator. You can run several Android systems directly in Exton|OS. Also with GAPPS (Google Play Services and Google Play Store) pre-installed. Watch a screenshot when Android 11 is running with Google Play Store enabled. Other pre-installed programs are Firefox, Gimp and GParted. Also all necessary additions in order to install programs from source. Kernel 5.13.4-exton (corresponding Kernel.org‘s kernel 5.13.4) is used. All packages have been updated to the latest available version as at July 29, 2021 Study the NEW PACKAGE list. Google Chrome has been removed since it’s now possible to use Netflix in Firefox. Using Refracta Snapshot you can change everything to your liking and create your own live installable Ubuntu system with Android Studio included. I mean create your own installable Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS Live DVD once you have installed Exton|OS to hard drive. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS will be supported until April 25, 2025. In this version of Exton|OS VirtualBox Guest Additions are pre-installed. This means that you can run Exton|OS live (directly from the ISO file) in full screen. Watch this screenshot. I have also installed Nvidia Proprietary Graphics driver 470.57.02 so that you can use it while running Exton|OS live (from a DVD or a USB stick).

ExTiX 20.9 KDE Plasma together with Anbox (“Android in a Box”) :: Build 200825

ABOUT ExTiX 20.9 – Build 200825
I have made a new version of ExTiX – The Ultimate Linux System. I call it ExTiX 20.9 KDE Anbox Live DVD. (The previous KDE version was 20.2 from 200127). I have now included Anbox (Android in a Box – Anbox puts the Android operating system into a container, abstracts hardware access and integrates core system services into a GNU/Linux system. Every Android application will be integrated with your operating system like any other native application). So now you can run Android apps in ExTiX. You can also very easy install GAPPS (Google Play Services and Google Play Store) yourself after a hard drive installation of ExTiX 20.9. The second best thing with ExTiX 20.9 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu/Anbox system. So easy that a ten year child can do it!

ExTiX 20.9 KDE Plasma DVD 64 bit is based on Debian and Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Gnome. After removing Gnome I have installed KDE Frameworks 5.68.0 with KDE 4.19. KDE Frameworks are 60 addon libraries to Qt which provide a wide variety of commonly needed functionality in mature, peer reviewed and well tested libraries with friendly licensing terms.

The system language is ENGLISH.

NEWS ABOUT ExTiX 20.9 Build 200825 with the KDE Plasma Desktop environment together with Anbox (Android in a Box), Refracta Installer and Refracta Snapshot
1. ExTiX KDE Plasma is based on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Focal Fossa. KDE Plasma 5.104 is used as Desktop environment together with Anbox (Android in a Box). All packages have been updated to the latest version by 200825. Kernel 5.4.42-generic is used.
2. I have pre-installed Anbox (Android in a Box) with some useful apps. Among them Aptoide App Manager and F-Droid. You can very easy install GAPPS (Google Play Services and Google Play Store) yourself after a hard drive installation of ExTiX. Anbox won’t run live or in VirtualBox. You will get this error message. Unfortunately you can’t run videos in Anbox. Sound will work, but you can’t play any videos. (For example in YouTube).
3. Other included important/useful packages are: GParted GCC and other compilation tools so that you can install packages from source. Furthermore “all” multimedia codecs. Everything the average Linux user could wish for I would say.
4. The best thing with ExTiX 20.9 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system. Very easy to do. When starting Refracta Snapshot you will see this.

ARCore For Android 7.0 Nougat Or Higher

As is often the case, Apple has dominated smartphone news lately. The announcement of a few new iPhones and the iOS 11 system got a lot of people excited. And perhaps more notably, that new operating system introduced augmented reality through the ARKit development platform. Now there’s a great deal of talk about what augmented reality on Apple devices is capable. Only, as you may know, Google had actually already released much the same thing (with far less fanfare).

Google’s version is called ARCore, and it basically brings augmented reality capabilities to existing and future Android phones. More specifically, it is compatible with any Android mobile device operating on Nougat 7.0 or above, which means millions and millions of devices can already enjoy augmented reality. ARCore isn’t a full development program, but rather works with Java/OpenGL, Unity, and Unreal to bring about an impressive and deeply realistic version of AR. A better understanding of the surrounding environment helps ARCore to make digital elements appear as if they’ve truly settled into real environments.

All that’s left to wonder is what some of its uses will be. And we have a few educated guesses.

Learning Programs

One of the most exciting things that Android and iOS developers have already realized about mobile AR is that it has the ability to blow up microscopic constructions so that they can be explored in a size humans relate better to. Case in point, the first publicly released ARCore-based app was something called AR Atom Visualizer which you guessed it blows atoms up so that we can manipulate and explore their structures. That app alone is quite fascinating, but imagine similar builds for other subjects. AR will allow students to study complex microorganisms, human anatomy, and all kinds of other things.

Artistic Apps

It’s been somewhat surprising to see the focus on art in the realm of virtual reality. TiltBrush may just be the most popular experience that has come out for VR devices, and it exists solely to allow users to craft virtual paintings (which can almost feel like sculptures). There’s really nothing to stop AR from following suit, so it’s more or less a certainty that similar apps will emerge and grow popular. In fact, there are already some that allow for simple TiltBrush-style creation.

Old Games Reborn

You need only do the most basic exploration of the Android or iOS app stores to see that mobile games will largely dominate ARCore innovation. But more specifically we’re liable to see some old types of games reborn on the format. The first that come to mind are board games, which can be made to look as if they’re sitting in front of us in physical form. But there are broader examples as well. The casino genre is certainly one to watch. The last few years saw innovations in live dealer and 3D gaming, and leading developers have already taken that concept into overdrive by introducing VR games. AR is next in line, meaning we’ll probably see card, poker, and even roulette slot games in this category as well.

New Games Adapted

Sticking with games which again, are poised to dominate the majority of ARCore releases in the early going it won’t just be old school concepts that are adapted. While some types of games will be ill-suited to augmented reality, a lot of the experiences that have been successful as basic mobile apps could prove easily adaptable. Games that often feature in Android stores, from The Room to Monument Valley, are based primarily on captivating visuals, puzzles and angles, and generally immersive qualities. We like these games on mobile devices because that’s all they require to stand out they are not big, spacious adventures, but rather intimate and intricate experiences. These same games, projected into space via ARCore, could be spellbinding.

My build of Android-x86_64 Marshmallow 6.0.1 has GAPPS pre-installed. I.e. Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Gmail and more apps. Other pre-installed apps are for example Aptoide App Manager and Clash of Clans. The ISO is called android_x86_64-marshmallow-6.0.1-gapps-736mb-160922.iso. AndEX Marshmallow 64bit Build 160922 is totally error-free (as far as I know). Everything just works! About Google Play Services – read below and see this slideshow.

About
My compiled Android-x86_64 system (Marshmallow 6.0.1) can run live (from CD) or be installed on almost all laptops (and some Desktop computers). For example Acer (Aspire), HP, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Asus laptops. The Android system is distributed in the form of an ISO file as the rest of my Linux distributions. Marshmallow 6.0.1 is the second latest version of the Android mobile operating system developed by Google. I call my remaster of it AndEX Marshmallow 64bit Live DVD. It uses “my” special kernel 4.4.20-exton-android-x86_64 with some extra features. I.e. extra drivers. My Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 build from 2016-02-14 will also cost you 9 $. I has one advantage over the Nougat, Marshmallow and Lollipop AndEX versions: The system can be used also on older laptops. Read more about the KitKat 4.4.4 version 160214 or DOWNLOAD it instantly.

Google Play Services
When you start up AndEX Marshmallow Build 160922 for the first time you will get an error message saying that “Google Play Services has stopped”. (As in my previous builds of AndEX). This is easily fixed by going to Settings – Apps – Google Play Services. Give Google Play Services ALL permissions. After  that you won’t see any more error messages.

Installing new apps in AndEX Marshmallow 64 bit
Use Google Play Store or Aptoide App Manager, which are pre-installed. Just make your choices! See screenshots when I’m installing Spotify, Google Chrome and YouTube while running AndEX Marshmallow Build 160922 from hard drive.

REPLACEMENT
Version 160922 (64 bit) replaces version 160220 of AndEX Marshmallow (32 bit).

RaspAnd Marshmallow 6.0.1 Build 160915 for Raspberry Pi 3/2 – faster and more responsive than ever!

raspand-marshmallow-desktop2-160915-smallRaspAnd Marshmallow Build 160915 is an Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow system which can run on Raspberry Pi 3 and Pi 2. Google Play Store and other GAPPS are included. This version of RaspAnd is faster and more responsive than RaspAnd Marshmallow 6.0.1 Build 160717 and (of course) RaspAnd Lollipop Build 150924/160315. Many other apps than GAPPS are pre-installed in Build 160915. I can mention Clash of Clans, Spotify, ES File Explorer, Rotation Control Pro, Terminal Emulator, Aida64, WinZip and Vlc.

ABOUT RaspAnd Marshmallow Build 160915
This new version has about the same pre-installed apps and features as in RaspAnd Marshmallow Build 160717, but it looks better, runs faster and is more responsive. Watch the slideshow below. You can run also this build (160915) using a Raspberry Pi 2 computer, but for best performance you really should use a Raspberry Pi 3. Be sure also to use a class 10 Micro SD Card.

About Aptoide App Manager and Google Play Store
I have removed Aptoide in this build (160915). I could not get Aptoide to work properly in this RaspAnd build. Google Play Store works very well though. I.e.: A lot of apps can be found and installed.

About the need to upgrade from RaspAnd Build 160717 to RaspAnd Build 160915

If you have RaspAnd Build 160717 “up and running” and everything works alright there is no real need to upgrade. I mean both versions are based on Marshmallow 6.0.1 and all included apps (GAPPS and others) gets updated all the time. RaspAnd Build 160915 runs slightly faster and looks better than Build 160717. That’s all! Note: RaspAnd Build 160717 has even one advantage over Build 160915. Namely that Aptoide App Manager is installed. Aptoide can be used to install apps not found on Google Play Store.

I have compiled yet another Android 5.1 Lollipop system which can run on Raspberry Pi 2. I call “my” new system RaspAnd Build 3. My first version of RaspAnd is from 150405 and my second from 150527. The following useful apps are pre-installed in Build 3 of 150924: Google Play Store, Aptoide App Manager (as an alternative to Google Play Store), Terminal Emulator, AIDA64, Geekbench, WinZip, FileManager, Rotation Control Lite, WPS Office and Offline Maps. Google Play Store, AIDA64 and Geekbench were not included in Build 2 from 150527.

Replacement
This version (Build 8) replaces all my previous (7) Android-x86 4.4.4 KitKat builds. In version 8 (as in version 7) I’ve added GAPPS. I.e. Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Maps, YouTube and more apps (for example Bluetooth File Transfer, Spotify and WPS Office). Everything just works.

What’s the point?

Well, if you like your Android phone and all the apps you have installed on it I’m sure you will also like to run apps from your laptop. Bigger screen and better sound etc. Read my article About how useful an Android-x86 system can be for the average computer user.

AndEX Marshmallow Build 151206 is totally error-free (as far as I know). Google Chrome was installed as a replacement for the original Browser, which didn’t work properly. (Nothing could be downloaded).
