CruxEX 3.5 64 bit Linux Live USB with LXDE, Nvidia Graphics Driver and Google Chrome (for Netflix) – Build 190630

CruxEX 3.5 64 bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.5 (latest version, released 190611), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86_64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users. The primary focus of this distribution is keep it simple, which is reflected in a straightforward tar.gz-based package system, BSD-style initscripts, and a relatively small collection of trimmed packages. The secondary focus is utilization of new Linux features and recent tools and libraries. CRUX also has a ports system which makes it easy to install and upgrade applications). CruxEX 3.5 2019 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel 4.18 with “my” special kernel 5.1.12-exton, with support for “extra everything”.

Kernel and installed packages
Kernel 5.1.12 is one of the latest available stable kernels as of 190630. Among all installed and updated applications are Firefox, Google Chrome (for Netflix), GParted, PCManFM, Pulseaudio, Gimp and Wicd. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source. Note: Google Chrome is not in CRUX repositories. Nvidia Graphics Driver 430.26 is pre-installed. It will be automatically used if your computer has support for it.

Runs from RAM
One good thing with CruxEX is that it is a live system (which CRUX original isn’t) and that you can run CruxEX super fast from RAM.

Unique
CruxEX 3.5 2019 build 190630 is – as my previous CRUX-remasters – unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live CD/USB (as far as I know). In any case, not for downloading. The good thing with CruxEX is that it is a live system (which CRUX original isn’t) and that you can run CruxEX super fast from RAM. Also that you can install CruxEX to hard drive in about 5 min and then have a ready-to-go CRUX desktop system. You can after that install any (extra) desktop environment you like.

RaspEX based on upcoming Ubuntu 19.10 “Eoan Ermine” with LXDE, kernel 4.19.50-exton-v7+, Raspotify, RealVNC, PuTTy, Samba and Bluetooth – Build 190616

NEWS 190616 about RaspEX with LXDE based on (upcoming) Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine
I have upgraded the whole system and replaced the old kernel 4.14.74-v7+ with kernel 4.19.50-exton-v7+. RaspEX Build 190616 is a Linux ARM system for Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, 3 Model B+ and Raspberry Pi 2. It is based on Debian 9 Stretch, Ubuntu 19.10 and Linaro (Open Source software for ARM SoCs). In this new version (190616) I’ve installed Wicd Network Manager. Both Firefox ESR and Midori Private Browser are pre-installed. I have also installed Samba and RealVNC so you can connect to your Windows computers in your Home Network and/or control RaspEX on your Raspberry Pi 3 or Pi 2 from your Windows computers with VNC Viewer and/or PuTTY (Telnet and SSH client). Furthermore some extra Network Tools, SMTube (YouTube browser which allows to browse, search and play YouTube videos), PulseAudio for better sound in YouTube and RaspotifyRaspotify is a Spotify Connect client for Raspbian on the Raspberry Pi that just works. Study all installed packages in RaspEX Build 190616.

THE IMPORTANCE of RaspEX LXDE now being based on Ubuntu 19.10 “Eoan Ermine” (UNSTABLE/DEVELOPMENT)
I don’t think it is too important since RaspEX doesn’t use complicated Desktop Environments like KDE, Gnome or Unity. Programs won’t crash or anything like that. And I haven’t discovered any bugs to report. Just upgrade your RaspEX installation regularly and you won’t have any problems. I think.

Compatibility :: June 2019

Unfortunately not all systems made for Raspberry Pi 3 and 2 will run on the new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ computer. They need to be upgraded with a new kernel. I therefore have to upgrade the systems I distribute. I.e. RaspEX, RaspEX with OpenCPN, RaspEX BunsenLabs, RaspAnd Marshmallow, RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2, RaspAnd Oreo 8.1, RaspAnd Pie, EXTON OpSuS Rpi, FedEX Rpi3 and RaspArch. I have until now (190616) upgraded RaspEX, RaspEX with OpenCPN, RaspArch, EXTON OpSuS Rpi, FedEX Rpi3, RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 and RaspAnd Pie. Read about the new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+…

Why shall I use RaspEX?
Eight Operating Systems are recommended by Raspberrypi.org. Among them Noobs, Raspbian (Debian Stretch) and Snappy Ubuntu Core. RaspEX is faster (“fast as lightning”), more useful and more fun to use. (In my opinion). One member at this site thought that running RaspEX (for Raspberry Pi 2 Model B) was like running Raspberry Pi on “steroids“. If you use the new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ RaspEX will run even faster!

ArchEX (Arch Linux) with Deepin 15.10.1, LXQt 0.14.1, kernel 5.1.8-arch1-ARCH, Yaourt and Calamares 3.2.10 installer – Build 190612

NEWS about ArchEX 190612
A new version of ArchEX is ready! In this new version, which I call ArchEX 2019, I have added the Deepin 15.10.1 (latest) Desktop environment. Deepin (made in China!) is devoted to providing a beautiful, easy to use, safe and reliable system for global users. I came to like Deepin very much when I installed it in ExTiX 19.4. So I thought why not install Deepin also in ArchEX?

Study all installed packages in ArchEX 2019 Deepin/LXQt.

WHAT IS ArchEX?

ArchEX 64 bit is a new (190612) Linux live DVD based on Arch Linux. Arch motto is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). ArchEX uses kernel 5.1.8-arch1-ARCH, Deepin 15.10.1 and LXQt 0.14.1 Desktop environments. Deepin 15.10.1 Desktop (made in China!) is devoted to providing a beautiful, easy to use, safe and reliable system for global users. About LXQt 0.14.1: LXQt is a lightweight Qt desktop environment. It will not get in your way. It will not hang or slow down your system. It is focused on being a classic desktop with a modern look and feel.

INSTALLED SOFTWARE
Among many other programs, Firefox 67.0.1-1 (for Netflix), Gimp, Spotify, GCC, Wicd and GParted – study this package LIST.

YouTube video about ArchEX
Ike Santos (https://www.facebook.com/groups/Ike.Santos) has made a YouTube video about ArchEX. You will get a detailed description about how to install ArchEX in VirtualBox using Calamares Installer.

Rolling distribution

Arch Linux/ArchEX are rolling distributions, which implies that once you have installed the system on the hard drive there is no need for re-installations (which otherwise is common in the Linux world).

WHO should run Arch Linux?
My answer: The system fits the “advanced” Linux user/enthusiast, who would be willing to run an occasional command from time to time.

BENEFITS of ArchEX/Arch Linux
“Cutting Edge”-software and speed. You will for example always run the latest kernel if you upgrade ArchEX/Arch (for example) every month.

MeX Linux Build 190601 with Cinnamon 4.0, Refracta Snapshot and kernel 5.20-rc2-exton

NEWS/CHANGES 190601
Mex Linux is no longer based on Linux Mint. MeX Build 190601 is based only on Debian and Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (Long Term Support). I have replaced the original kernel with “my” special kernel 5.2.0-rc2-exton. Latest available kernel as of 190601. All packages in MeX Linux have been upgraded to the latest version by 190601. This version of MeX uses Cinnamon 4.0. Linux Mint “Tessa” 19.1 also uses Cinnamon 4.0 as Desktop environment. The very nice icon theme Papirus is installed and used. I haven’t changed the wallpapers since it’s hard to find nicer ones.

MORE MeX NEWS 190601
1. The MeX ISO is now a ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred (copied) to a USB pen drive.
2. Another big improvement is that MeX now can run from RAM. Use Boot alternative 4 (load to RAM). When the system has booted up you can eject the disc (DVD)/USB stick. You’ll need at least 2 GB RAM to run MeX that way. The ISO file is of only 1020 MB so MeX will run superfast from RAM!
3. I have replaced Google Chrome with Firefox. Google Chrome is no longer needed to be able to run Netflix in Linux.
4. The best thing with this new MeX build – Create your own installable Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS Live DVD with Refracta tools (pre-installed)! The whole “remasterprocess” is so simple that a 10 year old child can do it.

Used KERNEL
The best thing with kernel 5.2.0-rc2 is that it has better support for the open-source Nvidia driver Nouveau than any other older kernel.

What’s new in kernel 5.2?

Who can benefit from MeX?
All who like Debian/Ubuntu and want a system that is easy to use and maintain. And of course those who want to create their own Ubuntu system in a very simple way with Refracta Snapshot. Regarding MeX also those who want to run a Linux system super fast from RAM and/or like to run Linux from a USB flash drive. And those who want a new kernel – 5.2-0-rc2.
