NEWS about ArchEX 190612
A new version of ArchEX is ready! In this new version, which I call ArchEX 2019, I have added the Deepin 15.10.1 (latest) Desktop environment. Deepin (made in China!) is devoted to providing a beautiful, easy to use, safe and reliable system for global users. I came to like Deepin very much when I installed it in ExTiX 19.4. So I thought why not install Deepin also in ArchEX?

Study all installed packages in ArchEX 2019 Deepin/LXQt.

WHAT IS ArchEX?
ArchEX 64 bit is a new (190612) Linux live DVD based on Arch Linux. Arch motto is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). ArchEX uses kernel 5.1.8-arch1-ARCH, Deepin 15.10.1 and LXQt 0.14.1 Desktop environments. Deepin 15.10.1 Desktop (made in China!) is devoted to providing a beautiful, easy to use, safe and reliable system for global users. About LXQt 0.14.1: LXQt is a lightweight Qt desktop environment. It will not get in your way. It will not hang or slow down your system. It is focused on being a classic desktop with a modern look and feel.

INSTALLED SOFTWARE
Among many other programs, Firefox 67.0.1-1 (for Netflix), Gimp, Spotify, GCC, Wicd and GParted – study this package LIST.

Ike Santos (https://www.facebook.com/groups/Ike.Santos) has made a YouTube video about ArchEX. You will get a detailed description about how to install ArchEX in VirtualBox using Calamares Installer.

Rolling distribution
Arch Linux/ArchEX are rolling distributions, which implies that once you have installed the system on the hard drive there is no need for re-installations (which otherwise is common in the Linux world).

My answer: The system fits the “advanced” Linux user/enthusiast, who would be willing to run an occasional command from time to time.

“Cutting Edge”-software and speed. You will for example always run the latest kernel if you upgrade ArchEX/Arch (for example) every month.

NEWS about ArchEX 181114
A new version of ArchEX is ready! In this new version, which I call ArchEX 2019, I have added the Deepin 15.8 (latest) Desktop environment. Deepin (made in China!) is devoted to providing a beautiful, easy to use, safe and reliable system for global users. I came to like Deepin very much when I installed it in ExTiX 18.8. So I thought why not install Deepin also in ArchEX?

Why trust a Chinese Distribution?

NEWS 181114 about Calamares Installer
I’ve finally managed to make Calamares 3.2.2 (The universal installer framework) work without problems/issues. Calamares 3.2.2 is quite new. Released September 4, 2018. This version gives you more control over the installation process. Now you can use Calamares to install ArchEX in any language. The boot loader Grub2 (which can be installed during the installation of ArchEX) will also work without problems.

LXQt is a lightweight Qt desktop environment. It will not get in your way. It will not hang or slow down your system. It is focused on being a classic desktop with a modern look and feel.

What’s new in ArchEX Build 170327?
I’ve installed Calamares , which is a distribution-independent system installer, with an advanced partitioning feature for both manual and automated partitioning operations. It is the first installer with an automated “Replace Partition” option, which makes it easy to reuse a partition over and over for distribution testing. Calamares works almost perfect in ArchEX. Read more about it. I’ve also added Yaourt – a Pacman frontend. If you want to install certain special packages for example Google Chrome and Spotify you must use Yaourt. Note: Spotify is pre-installed in ArchEX Build 170327.

INSTALLED SOFTWARE

Install a Linux system to a USB stick and get perfect persistence!

Linux to USB – Installation methods
Many people like to run/test a Linux system without touching/changing their hard drive. There are a lot of installations programs out there for both Linux and Windows. Most of them doesn’t offer persistence though. Very little is written about the fact that the “ordinary” installation program for installations to hard drive (in some cases) also can be used to install a Linux system to a USB stick. Using such an installation method will of course give you perfect persistence! Here are some examples.

1. ExTiX – based on Ubuntu
Installation with perfect persistence using the regular installation program Ubiquity. Read about how to do it (under B)).

2. exGENT – based on Gentoo Linux
Installation with perfect persistence using a script, which I call exGENT Installer. It is done in the same way as a hard drive installation. Read more…

3. SlackEX – based on Slackware
SlackEX has to be installed to a USB Stick. Read about how to do it. It can be done i Windows or Linux.

4. CruxEX – based on CRUX
Please read my INSTRUCTION for CruxEX. It can be done i Windows or Linux.

5. EXTON OpSuS – based on openSUSE
EXTON OpSuS has to be installed to a USB stick. It can be done i Windows or Linux. Read about how to do it.

6. ArchEX – based on Arch Linux

ArchEX 64bit/32bit dual is a new (150409) Linux live DVD based on Arch Linux. Arch motto is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). ArchEX uses kernel 3.19.3-1-ARCH (latest stable kernel) and the LXDE Desktop environment.

INSTALLED SOFTWARE
Among many other programs, Firefox 37.0.1, Gimp 2.8.14, GCC 4.9.2, Wicd and GParted – see this package LIST.

INSTALLATION to hard drive
ArchEX can easily be installed to hard drive of those who so desire. Use ArchEX Installer. I.e. while running ArchEX live from the DVD.

Rolling distribution
