PuppEX Jammy64 (Puppy Linux) compatible with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS :: Build 230222

NEWS ABOUT PuppEX Jammy64 22.04 230222
This Puppy derivative is built from Puppy_Linux_vanillapup 22.04.39, which is build from Ubuntu packages and packages build from source. Puppy_Linux_vanillapup is the best Puppy Linux system I’ve ever tried so I decided to make it even better. My first version of PuppEX Jammy64 is from 220630.
My changes of the original system 230222:
1. I’ve replaced kernel 5.15 with kernel 6.1.12-exton with support for “extra everything”

2. Development tools (build-essential) are installed
3. Latest Firefox and Google Chrome are pre-installed
4. Added the ntfs-3g package (so NTFS partitions are writable)
5. Added GParted
6. Added video codecs (libavcodec58) so that YouTube videos and Netflix movies can run in Firefox.
The ISO size has therefore increased from 343 MB to 879 MB, but PuppEX runs nevertheless as fast as the original Puppy, which means that it runs very very fast!
NOTE: On some computers you may have to wait 60 seconds before the boot process starts. You will see a message saying “Pausing for 60 seconds…”
This error won’t occur after a hard drive (frugal) installation.
COMPATIBLE WITH Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
PuppEX Jammy64 is compatible with Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy Jellyfish), which means that Ubuntu packages for Ubuntu 22.04 can be installed and used in PuppEX. You can use the Synaptic Package Manager or the apt command. (apt update, apt upgrade, apt install MyUsefulPackage etc).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The normal remasterpup2 script (which is included in all Puppy Linux versions) doesn’t work in Puppy_Linux_vanillapup. I had to use my “special remaster tricks” to be able to build PuppEX Jammy64. I have therefore kept my two versions of PuppEX Focal64 20.04 in which the remasterpup2 script works very well. It works very well in PuppEX Slack64 15.0 too.
NOTE about VirtualBox/VMware: You can’t run this version of PuppEX in VirtualBox or VMware. PuppEX Jammy64 runs pretty well in Qemu in Linux though.

CruxEX 2022 (CRUX 3.6.1) 64bit Linux Build 220104 – Install it to a USB Pen Drive and enjoy PERSISTENCE!

LATEST NEWS ABOUT CruxEX 220104
I have released a new version of CruxEX today. This version has VirtualBox Guest Additions pre-installed, which means (among other things) that you can run CruxEX in VirtualBox in full screen. Read about how to install and run CruxEX from a USB stick in VirtualBox. Watch a screenshot when CruxEX is running i VirtualBox in full screen. (Using VirtualBox Guest Additions).

CruxEX 2022 64 bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.6.1 (latest version, released 201212), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86_64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users. The primary focus of this distribution is keep it simple, which is reflected in a straightforward tar.gz-based package system, BSD-style initscripts, and a relatively small collection of trimmed packages. The secondary focus is utilization of new Linux features and recent tools and libraries. CRUX also has a ports system which makes it easy to install and upgrade applications). CruxEX 3.6.1 2022 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel 5.10 with “my” special kernel 5.15.12-exton-amd64, with support for “extra everything”.

Replacement
My first remaster of CRUX 3.6.1 is from 201223. Now (220104) I have upgraded all included packages and replaced kernel 5.9.15-exton with kernel 5.15.12-exton-amd64. Study the most important upgraded packages.

Kernel and installed packages
Kernel 5.15.12 is the latest available stable kernel as of 220104. Among all installed and updated applications are Firefox, Google Chrome (for Netflix), GParted, PCManFM, Pulseaudio, Slim Login Manager, Gimp and NetworkManager. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source. Note: Google Chrome is not in CRUX repositories. Nvidia Graphics Driver 470.94 is pre-installed. It will be automatically used if your computer has support for it. Furthermore I’ve installed VirtualBox Guest Additions so that you can run CruxEX in full screen in VirtualBox. Watch this screenshot.

Unique
CruxEX 3.6.1 2022 build 220104 is – as my previous CRUX-remasters – unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live CD/USB (as far as I know). In any case, not for downloading. The good thing with CruxEX is that it is a live system (which CRUX original isn’t) and that you can run CruxEX super fast from RAM. Also that you can install CruxEX to hard drive in about 5 minutes and then have a ready-to-go CRUX desktop system. You can after that install any (extra) desktop environment you like. NOTE: You can (of course) install new Desktops environments and other stuff also when running CruxEX from a USB stick – PERSISTENCE! Note also: To make CRUX original ready for everyday use will normally take 2 – 3 days!

LFA (Linux For All) 64bit Build 191111 with LXDE, TeamViewer, Google Chrome, Refracta Snapshot and kernel 5.4.0-rc6-exton

About Linux For All (LFA) Build 191111
The system is based on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS and Debian. It’s a total rebuild. I.e. nothing is left of the old LFA system.

Why Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS?
Ubuntu 18.04 is supported until April 2023. Ubuntu 19.10 is supported until July 2020 only.

NEWS ABOUT LFA Build 191111

1. This is a very BIG system (2120MB). All packages the ordinary Linux user can wish for are pre-installed. Study the full packages list.
2. Kernel 5.4.0-rc6-exton is used.
3. I have installed Nvidia’s latest proprietary graphics driver 440.31.
4. The Desktop environment is LXDEDesigned to be user friendly and slim, while keeping the resource usage low.
5. The main Web Browser is Google Chrome. So you can watch Netflix! Another advantage with Google Chrome is that you will get all your bookmarks if you log in with your Gmail account.
6. I have included Refracta tools (Refracta Snapshot) to make it possible for you to create your own installable Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS Live DVD once you have installed LFA to hard drive. This is done in the easiest possible way!
7. Use TeamViewer (pre-installed) to control your Windows computers from LFA. Or control LFA from your Windows computers.

What’s new in kernel 5.4?

RaspAnd Pie 9 for Raspberry Pi 3 B and B+ :: Build 190903 :: with Google Chrome, YouTube, Evie Launcher, Aurora Store and F-Droid. All working very well!

RaspAnd Pie 9 for Raspberry Pi 3 B and B+ :: Build 190903 :: with Google Chrome,YouTube, Aurora Store and F-DroidFree and Open Source Android App Repository. NOTE: Aurora and F-Droid are replacements for Yalp Store and Aptoide App Manager. Yalp doesn’t work anymore. Aptoide works very well in RaspAnd Pie, but I had no room for it in this build. You can, however, easily install Aptoide yourself.

About Raspberry Pi 4
This build (RaspAnd Pie 190903) doesn’t work on the new Raspberry Pi 4. You can also not yet find another build (with Android) which works on the Raspberry Pi 4 computer.

ABOUT RaspAnd Pie 9 Build 190903

RaspAnd Pie 9 runs very well on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and 3 Model B+. I.e. the system is pretty responsive if you use a micro SD card of good quality. RaspAnd Pie has the following apps pre-installed: Google Chrome, Aurora Store, F-Droid, Aida64, Rotation Control Pro, Evie Launcher, Termux, ES File Explorer. Unfortunately not Google Play Store, but Aurora and F-Droid work as good replacements for it.

About Aurora Store
Aurora Store is an alternate to Google’s Play Store, with an elegant design, using Aurora you can download apps, update existing apps, search for apps, get details about in-app trackers, spoof your location and much more. So Aurora Store works as a pretty good replacement for Google Play Store. I think.

About F-Droid
F-Droid is an installable catalogue of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) applications for the Android platform. The client makes it easy to browse, install, and keep track of updates on your device.

About GetJar
The worlds biggest Open App Store for Android. If you can’t find the app you want on at Aurora or F-Droid you can always try with GetJar. Just download the APK file and install it!

SCREENSHOTS

2. Using Aurora Store

CruxEX 3.5 64 bit Linux Live USB with LXDE, Nvidia Graphics Driver and Google Chrome (for Netflix) – Build 190630

CruxEX 3.5 64 bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.5 (latest version, released 190611), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. CruxEX 3.5 2019 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel 4.18 with “my” special kernel 5.1.12-exton, with support for “extra everything”.

Kernel and installed packages
Kernel 5.1.12 is one of the latest available stable kernels as of 190630. Among all installed and updated applications are Firefox, Google Chrome (for Netflix), GParted, PCManFM, Pulseaudio, Gimp and Wicd. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source. Note: Google Chrome is not in CRUX repositories. Nvidia Graphics Driver 430.26 is pre-installed. It will be automatically used if your computer has support for it.

Runs from RAM
One good thing with CruxEX is that it is a live system (which CRUX original isn’t) and that you can run CruxEX super fast from RAM.

Unique
CruxEX 3.5 2019 build 190630 is – as my previous CRUX-remasters – unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live CD/USB (as far as I know). In any case, not for downloading. RaspAnd Pie 9 for Raspberry Pi 3 B and B+ :: Build 190429 :: with Google Chrome, YouTube, Evie Launcher, Yalp Store and Aptoide App Manager. All working very well!

ABOUT RaspAnd Pie 9 – a new extra build 190429
RaspAnd Pie 9 runs very well on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and 3 Model B+. I.e. the system is pretty responsive if you use a micro SD card of good quality. RaspAnd Pie Build 190429 has the following apps pre-installed: Google Chrome, Yalp Store, Aptoide App Manager, Aida64, Rotation Control, Evie Launcher, Termux and ES File Explorer. Unfortunately not Google Play Store, but Yalp Store and Aptoide work as good replacements for it.

ABOUT Android Pie 9, which was released 180806…

Differences
My first RaspAnd Pie Build is from 190315. In Build 190429 I’ve added Yalp Store and replaced Nova Launcher with Evie Launcher.

About Yalp Store
Yalp Store lets you download apps directly from Google Play Store as apk files. It can search for updates of installed apps and lets you search for other apps. The point of Yalp Store is to be small and independent from Google Services Framework. By default Yalp Store connects to Google services using a built-in account, so you do not have to own a Google account to use it. The only reason to use a live Google account is to access the paid apps you own or leave reviews. So Yalp Store works as a pretty good replacement for Google Play Store. I think.

About Evie Launcher

PuppEX Bionic 64 bit, uefi, compatible with Ubuntu 18.04 :: Build 190331

NEWS 190331
Yesterday I released my first version of PuppEX Bionic64. After that I have discovered a way to install and run Spotify in PuppEX. So now you can run YouTube, Netflix and Spotify in the new PuppEX version of 190331. What more can one wish for?

ABOUT PuppEX Bionic Build 190330
My newest Puppy derivative is built from Puppy Linux 8.0 BionicPup 64 bit. I have added Google Chrome (for Netflix), PCManFM, LXTerminal and many development tools. I have also compiled a new kernel – 5.0.5-puppex. Kernel 5.0.5 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org as of 190330. Furthermore I have installed Nvidia’s Proprietary Graphics driver 418.56. The Nvidia driver will be used if your computer/card is “good/modern” enough. If not automatically just open up a terminal and run the command nvidia-xconfig. Then restart X. Note: Firefox can’t be used in Puppy Linux. You won’t have sound.

PuppEX Bionic64 is compatible with Ubuntu 18.04, which means that Ubuntu packages for Ubuntu 18.04 can be installed and used in PuppEX. The PuppEX Bionic ISO is of 827 MB.

Performance
Puppy Bionic64 original is of only 354 MB. PuppEX Bionic64 is despite this still running as fast as the original, which means it runs very, very fast compared to most other Linux systems. (Puppy/PuppEX runs from RAM).

CruxEX (CRUX 3.4), 64bit, live USB with LXDE, Google Chrome (for Netflix), Spotify and kernel 4.18.7-exton – Build 180912

CruxEX 3.4 64 bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.4 (latest version, released 180512), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86_64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users. NOTE: Unfortunately persistence can’t be enabled anymore while running CruxEX from a USB stick.

About CruxEX 3.4 version 180912
All packages have been upgraded to the latest available version (with prt-get sysup). Furthermore: This version uses kernel 4.18.7 released 180909! And of course Google Chrome for Netflix!

Whats new in kernel 4.18?

Unique
CruxEX 3.4 2018 build 180912 is – as my previous CRUX-remasters – unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live CD/USB (as far as I know). In any case, not for downloading.
