SlackEX 15.0 (Slackware 15.0) Live System with KDE Plasma 5.27.5 (latest), Refracta Snapshot and kernel 6.3.1-amd64-exton :: Build 230525

Slackware is the first widely-used Linux system, which is still developing. Slackware has existed since 1993. In comparison with for example Ubuntu and Linux Mint, many people believe that Slackware is “difficult”. Any novice can quickly learn to use Ubuntu they say. My remasters of Slackware Current (15.0), which I call SlackEX 15.0 Current 64 bit Linux Live DVD, are however just as easy to use as Ubuntu and/or Linux Mint. Some tend to complain that the Program Management in Slackware is awkward. That was perhaps earlier the case, but not anymore.

NEWS ABOUT SlackEX 15.0 stable Build 230525 with KDE Plasma 5.27.5 (latest) as DE
A new extra version of SlackEX is ready. It is based on Slackware 15.0 stable released 220203. In this version I’ve installed KDE Plasma 5.27.5 (latest version released 230509). Plasma 5.27 is a LTS (Long Term Support) version. Kernel 6.3.1-amd64-exton is used. The most important package installed is Refracta Snapshot. With that you can build your own Slackware distribution with Plasma 5.27.5. KDE is one of Slackware’s official Desktop Environments. The other one is Xfce4. NOTE1: You can run SlackEX Build 230525 as the normal user user or as root. The password for root is root. The password for user is live. NOTE2: You can run SlackEX Build 230525 on UEFI and non-Uefi computers. You can also run SlackEX live super fast from RAM. NOTE3: If you want to run SlackEX as root you shall choose “Other” using SDDM Login Manager. The password for root is root.

SlackEX (Slackware) 15.0 RC3 (released 220113) with Enlightenment 0.25.1 (released 220103) respectively Xfce4 as an alternative DE, Refracta Installer and Refracta Snapshot (so you can create your own Slackware 15.0 system) ::: Build 220117

Slackware is the first widely-used Linux system, which is still developing. Slackware has existed since 1993. In comparison with for example Ubuntu and Linux Mint, many people believe that Slackware is “difficult”. Any novice can quickly learn to use Ubuntu they say. NEWS ABOUT SlackEX Build 220117 with the Enlightenment and Xfce4 Desktops
A new extra version of SlackEX is ready. It is based on Slackware 15.0 RC3 released 220113. In this version I’ve installed Enlightenment 0.25.1 – latest version and Xfce4. I’ve also replaced kernel 5.10.70-exton with kernel is 5.16.0-exton. This version of SlackEX is unique. You can’t find another Linux system with the latest Enlightenment version. When installing version 0.25.1 I had to do it from source. The whole thing was very time consuming since a lot of dependencies had to be satisfied. The most important package installed is Refracta Snapshot. With that you can build your own Slackware distribution with Enlightenment 0.25.1. When a new version of Enlightenment is ready you too should be able to install it from source. Xfce4 is one of Slackware’s official Desktop environments. The other one is KDE. You can easily switch from Enlightenment to Xfce4 by editing /root/.xinitrc. Watch this screenshot. Then log out and back again. That can of course also be done when running SlackEX live. (From a DVD or USB stick).  Study the full package LIST in SlackEX Build 220117. This Build of SlackEX replaces version 211014 (with Xfce4) and version 201112 (with Enlightenment). NOTE: You’ll run SlackEX Build 220117 as root. The password for root is root. If you don’t like to run a Linux system as root you can create a “normal” user. Watch this screenshot.

Why Slackware?
Slackware is grossly underestimated (in my opinion). This article give you ten (10) reasons to choose Slackware. And this article explains how Slackware works in 2021/2022.

SlackEX live with Refracta Snapshot based on Slackware 15.0 RC1 – Build 211014

Slackware is the first widely-used Linux system, which is still developing. Slackware has existed since 1993. In comparison with for example Ubuntu and Linux Mint, many people believe that Slackware is “difficult”. Any novice can quickly learn to use Ubuntu they say. My remaster of Slackware Current (15.0/14.2), which I call SlackEX 15.0/14.2/Current 64 bit Linux Live DVD, is however just as easy to use as Ubuntu and/or Linux Mint. Some tend to complain that the Program Management in Slackware is awkward. That was perhaps earlier the case, but not anymore. Now we have the Application Managers Slackpkg and GSlapt – a GTK version of slapt-get. They are a piece of cake to use! Users of Synaptic will feel at ease with GSlapt. (Only in the Enlightenment version though).

NEWS 211014 ABOUT SlackEX 15.0 RC1 with Xfce4
Slackware is not dead
even though not much has happen since Slackware 14.2 was released in July 2016. The main differences of Slackware 15 are booked to updating the versions of programs, including the transition to the Linux 5.10 kernel, a set of GCC compilers 10.3 and the system library glibc 2.33. SlackEX Build 211014 is a live remaster of Slackware 15.0 RC1. This build replaces version 210422, which was based on Slackware 15.0 BETA. A new kernel – 5.10.70-exton-amd64-rt53 – with better support for new hardware, for example new touchscreens and touchpads, is used in Build 211014. Study all pre-installed packages in Build 211014.
