EXTON OpSuS (openSUSE) Tumbleweed LXQt 64 bit non-efi Linux Live CD/USB – Build 210203

EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed is based on openSUSE Tumbleweed, which is a rolling distribution. I.e. no need for new installations. Just run the command zypper dup and you will always get the latest stable packages/kernels. The ISO file is only of 657 MB so you will run the system very fast from a CD or a USB stick. Even in VirtualBox/VMware directly from the ISO file.

Run EXTON OpSuS with PERSISTENCE from a USB stick! You can install new programs and/or change the whole system to you liking. Everything you do will be saved directly on the USB stick.

ABOUT EXTON OpSuS for PC’s
EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed with LXQt 0.16.1 uses kernel 5.10.9-1. Installed programs: Among many other programs, Firefox, NetworkManager, GParted and Calamares Installer. You’ll run the system as root from the beginning. Root’s password is linux. EXTON OpSuS can easily be installed to hard drive (of those who so desire). For that you shall use Calamares Installer. All programs have been updated to the latest available version as of February 3, 2021. The system language is English.

Installing to a USB stick with persistence and then to hard drive
After installing EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed to a USB stick, you can change the system completely and then install the system to a hard drive (if you like). You can also continue to have it only on the USB stick. You will enjoy persistence if you use openSUSE Imagewriter for the USB installation. You can also use Etcher (and possibly also Rufus if you install in dd-mode) in Windows for the USB installation. If you install EXTON OpSuS on a large enough (and fast) USB stick, you can go ahead and install for example KDE, Mate or Xfce4 Desktop environments. All your system changes are automatically saved to the USB stick. Note that you’ll have to use a different/new USB stick if you want to run EXTON OpSuS on another computer. That’s because certain files necessary for the configuration will be destroyed after the first boot. I.e.: You’ll have to use the same USB stick on the same computer all the time. If you later on decide to install EXTON OpSuS to hard drive using Calamares all your system changes will follow.

Installation of EXTON OpSuS from a USB stick (or CD) to hard drive using Calamares Installer
Read about how to do that on the INFO site.

Is EXTON OpSuS LXQt Build 210203 unique?
If you have a look at openSUSE’s official Download site you can see that there is no live LXQt version available. Furthermore OpenSUSE’ live versions should not be used to install or upgrade Tumbleweed.

SlackEX Build 171223 (Slackware 14.2) live dvd/usb with KDE 4.14.38, kernel 4.14.8-x86_64-efi-exton, Nvidia 384.98 and VirtualBox 5.2.4

Slackware is the first widely-used Linux system, which is still developing. Slackware has existed since 1993. In comparison with for example Ubuntu and Linux Mint, many people believe that Slackware is “difficult”. Any novice can quickly learn to use Ubuntu they say. My remaster of Slackware Current (14.2), which I call SlackEX 14.2/Current 64 bit Linux Live DVD/USB, is however just as easy to use as Ubuntu and/or Linux Mint. Some tend to complain that the Program Management in Slackware is awkward. That was perhaps earlier the case, but not anymore. Now we have the Application Managers Slackpkg and GSlapt – a GTK version of slapt-get. They are a piece of cake to use! Users of Synaptic will feel at ease with GSlapt.

New features in version 171223 of SlackEX
I have replaced kernel 4.12.9-x86_64-exton with kernel 4.14.8-x86_64-efi-exton with support for “everything”. Kernel 4.14.8 was released 171220. KDE is upgraded to version 4.14.38 (latest KDE version). All other component software is also upgraded to the latest Slackware Current version by now. I may also mention in particular GParted 0.29.0, VirtualBox 5.2.4 (latest, not in Slackware’s repositories), Google Chrome 63.0.3239.108 (not in Slackware’s repositories – you can download my build at SourceForge.net), Gimp 2.8.10 (installed from source), SMPlayer 17.11.2, GSlapt 0.5.4b, Slackpkg 2.82.1, Firefox 57.0.2, Thunderbird 52.5.0, Samba 4.7.3 and GCC 7.2.0. Furthermore I have installed Grub2, which can be used as boot loader (if you want) after a hard drive install. Study the full package LIST. Note: I have replaced Wicd with NetworkManager. It works better in SlackEX.

Screenshot 2 – KDE 4.14.38 Desktop with VirtualBox running

The end of the road…
I will end my SlackEX project now. It’s not needed anymore (if it ever was). Alienbob’s Slackware systems are built with liveslak scripts. Anyone can use the scripts. No special knowledge of Slackware (or Linux) is needed. A lot of different Slackware systems (built with liveslak) can be downloaded. They can all be installed to hard drive using a script called setup2hd. They can also be transferred to a USB stick using a script called iso2usb.sh.

WHAT IS ArchEX?
ArchEX 64bit is a new (170318) Linux live DVD based on Arch Linux. Arch motto is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). ArchEX uses kernel 4.10.3-1-ARCH and the LXQt Desktop environment. LXQt is a lightweight Qt desktop environment. It will not get in your way. It will not hang or slow down your system. It is focused on being a classic desktop with a modern look and feel.

INSTALLED SOFTWARE
Among many other programs, Firefox, Gimp, GCC, Wicd and GParted – see this package LIST.

INSTALLATION to hard drive
ArchEX can easily be installed to hard drive of those who so desire. Use ArchEX Installer. I.e. while running ArchEX live from the DVD. Read this INSTRUCTION.

Install ArchEX to a USB Pen Drive with persistence
Please read my INSTRUCTION. All your system changes will be saved directly on the stick.

WHO should run Arch Linux?
My answer: The system fits the “advanced” Linux user/enthusiast, who would be willing to run an occasional command from time to time.

BENEFITS of ArchEX/Arch Linux
“Cutting Edge”-software and speed. You will for example always run the latest kernel if you upgrade ArchEX/Arch (for example) every month.

LFA 64bit LINUX Live DVD Build 161114 – Create you own Linux For All/Ubuntu 16.10 live installable system!

lfa-refracta-tools-runningAbout Linux For All (LFA)
The system is based on Ubuntu 16.10, codenamed
Yakkety Yak and Debian testing (Stretch – upcoming Debian 9). It’s a total rebuild. I.e. nothing is left of the old LFA system. All installed packages have been updated to the latest version as of 161114. Kernel 4.4.0-19-exton is replaced by kernel 4.8.0-27-exton. (4.8.0-27 is the latest Ubuntu kernel). You can download “my” kernel if you want to use it in another Ubuntu/Debian system. I have also installed Nvidia’s proprietary graphics driver 370.28. Most important: I have included Refracta Tools so you can create your own Linux For All/Ubuntu live installable system!

The system language is ENGLISH.

More news about LFA build 161114
One of my previous versions of LFA (build 141120) had four (4) Desktop environments installed. Namely Unity (Ubuntu), LXDE, Razor-qt and XBMC. LFA build 161114 uses only Fluxbox as Window Manager and Cairo-Dock as Desktop Interface. Cairo-Dock is designed to be light, fast and customizable, and is desktop-agnostic. It has a powerful DBus interface, to be controlled from a terminal or another application. Features can be added by plug-ins or applets, and applets can be written in C or in any language. About Fluxbox: Fluxbox is a Window Manager for X that was based on the Blackbox 0.61.1 code. It is very light on resources and easy to handle but yet full of features to make an easy, and extremely fast, desktop experience. So who needs KDE or Gnome?

Screenshot 1: LFA’s new Desktop
Screenshot 2: Refracta Installer running
Screenshot 3: Refracta Tools running

Important about Refracta
You can use the Refracta Tools (pre-installed in LFA Build 161114) to create your own installable Ubuntu Live DVD once you have installed LFA to hard drive. I mean change everything and then create a whole new Ubuntu 16.10 live system. When you start Refracta it will look like this. You don’t even have to install LFA to hard drive before you can use the Refracta tools. If you have plenty of RAM you can create a new (your own!) Ubuntu live installable system while running LFA from DVD or a USB stick. Please note that the whole Refracta process (creating your new ISO) will only take 5 – 10 min! You can then install VirtualBox in LFA so you can test run your own created new Ubuntu ISO. Or do it in Windows. By the way: You can do the whole thing in VirtualBox. I mean install LFA in VirtualBox, change everything, create a new Ubuntu 16.10 system using Refracta tools and transfer your new ISO to your server using FileZilla, which is pre-installed.

Android-x86_64 Nougat 7.0 with GAPPS and kernel 4.4.19-exton-android-x86_64

andex-nougat-home-desktop-smallestNEWS 160904: AndEX – Nougat 7.0 with kernel 4.4.19-exton-android-x86_64 and GAPPS
My build of Android-x86_64 Nougat 7.0 has GAPPS pre-installed. I.e. Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube and more apps. For example: Aptoide App Manager. The ISO is called android-x86_64-7.0-nougat-gapps-exton-build-689mb-160904.iso.

ABOUT Andex Nougat
My compiled Android-x86_64 system (Nougat 7.0) can run live (from CD) on certain computers. It is best installed to a USB stick or to hard drive and running from there. The system can, however, be installed on almost all newer laptops (and some Desktop computers). For example Acer (Aspire), HP, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Asus laptops. I can also mention that I could run this Nougat version without problems on a HP Pavilion 500-317no Desktop Computer. I could also run it very well live on the HP Desktop computer. The Android system is distributed in the form of an ISO file as the rest of my Linux distributions. I.e. you must (as usual) burn the ISO file to a CD before you can install AndEX Nougat to hard drive. Read about how to burn ISO files. Or skip that. Just use ImgBurn. Nothing can go wrong. You can also download my Android Nougat system in the form of a zip-file (android-x86_64-7.0-nougat-gapps-exton-build-731mb-160904.zip) and do a manual installation to hard drive. That can even be done to a drive where you already have another Linux system (for example Ubuntu 16.04) installed. Read more about different installations below.

Android Nougat 7.0 was released 160822.

More about AndEX Nougat
Nougat 7.0 is the latest version of the Android mobile operating system developed by Google. I call my remaster of it AndEX Nougat. It uses “my” special kernel 4.4.19-exton-android-x86_64 with some extra features. I.e. extra drivers. My Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 build from 2016-02-14 will also cost you 9 $. It has two advantages over the Nougat and Marshmallow versions: The system can be used also on older laptops and it runs very well live in VirtualBox. Read more about the KitKat 4.4.4 version 160214 or DOWNLOAD it instantly.

What’s the point?

Well, if you like your Android phone and all the apps you have installed on it I’m sure you will also like to run apps from your laptop. Bigger screen and better sound etc. Also: In AndEX Nougat Build 160904 almost all apps and games can be installed via Google Play Store. Still not convinced? Then read my article about “How useful an Androx-x86 system can be for the average computer user“.

NOTE1/WARNING1
You must use a fairly new/modern computer. Android-x86_64 Nougat won’t run (even start) on older computers. My other Android remaster KitKat 4.4.4 Build 160214 will run also on older computers.

NOTE2/WARNING2
Before you buy and download this version of AndEX Nougat you must be aware of that not all apps downloaded from Google Play Store can run in an Android-x86_64 system. Some very big (around 1GB) games for example won’t run. On the other hand I could run Pes Club Manager, which is of 866 MB and Traffic Rider of about the same size. You must also be aware of that some (many) games need a touchscreen.

ExLight is very popular!

exlight-enlightenment-desktopExLight Linux Live DVD has been downloaded about 2000 times per week the last two months. I have therefore made a new upgraded version of ExLight today (160810). I have also created a new special WordPress site for ExLight.

WHAT’S NEW IN VERSION 160810?
1. ExLight is now based on Ubuntu 16.04.1 (alias Xenial Xerus) and Debian 8.5 Jessie.
2. I have upgraded the Desktop environment Enlightenment (Beauty at your fingertips) to version 0.20.99.0 (from 0.19.12).
3. I have replaced kernel 4.6.2-exlight with kernel 4.6.0-10-exlight. (Kernel.org’s latest stable kernel 4.6.5). If you want to use “my” kernel in another Ubuntu/Debian system you can download it.
4. ExLight’s ISO file is now a ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred (copied) to a USB pen drive. You can then even run ExLight from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick. I.e. you will enjoy persistence!
5. Another big improvement is that ExLight can run from RAM. Use Boot alternative 3 (Copy to RAM). When the system has booted up you can remove the disc (DVD) or USB stick. You’ll need at least 2 GB RAM to run ExLight that way.
6. The installation program Ubiquity (live installer) is now working as intended in ExLight version 160810. I.e. a new user (your user) will be created during the installation process.
7. I have installed Nvidia proprietary Graphics driver 367.35.
8. I have added seven animated wallpapers.

Chromium OS – Exton Build 160525 – with YouTube and Spotify working fast and responsive

chromium-osI have compiled Chromium OS from source. Just for fun. Chromium OS is an open-source project that aims to build an operating system that provides a fast, simple, and more secure computing experience for people who spend most of their time on the web. My Chromium OS Build 160525 is for all 64 bit “normal” Desktop computers and laptops. If you have unusual hardware you could check out ArnoldTheBat’s special Chromium OS builds.

How do I run Chromium OS?
Normally you run Chromium OS from a USB stick, but the system can also be installed to hard drive. Could be useful if you want to bring new life to an old computer. Be aware of the fact that Chromium OS can’t be installed together with other Linux systems (or any other OS). It will “take” the whole disk.

The difference between Chromium OS and Google Chrome OS
Chromium OS is the open source project, used primarily by developers, with code that is available for anyone to checkout, modify, and build.
Google Chrome OS is the Google product that OEMs ship on Chromebooks for general consumer use.

Screenshots when Chromium OS is running
Showing installed apps – screenshot 1

As you can see it shows a lot of Android apps installed by me on my Android mobile phone using the same Gmail address as the one I’ve used to log in to Chromium in Chromium OS (ChromX). Even Google Play Store is there. All apps (for example Google Maps) work, but you can’t install new apps using Google Play Store.

Spotify is running – screenshot 2
